Over the years, accountants have expressed their fear of managers leaving the firm and taking clients with them.\u00a0\u00a0A robust employee contract offers some protection but the enforcement of it is challenging, costly and stressful. <\/span><\/p>\n I have always recommended a firm wide approach to servicing clients as an additional protection.\u00a0How does this work?\u00a0Look at ALL the services and support that your firm is providing to your clients.\u00a0Then identify who in your team is providing those services and support.\u00a0If most of the client contact is limited to one person, the firm has a problem.\u00a0Why?<\/span><\/p>\n 1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The person looking after the client is overwhelmed and stressed.\u00a0Things will get missed and mistakes will be made.<\/span> What does a firm wide approach look like?\u00a0Everyone in the firm has responsibility for looking after the client in some way.\u00a0The CSO team might call in the work and follow up with the client.\u00a0Someone else might be responsible for all things ASIC.\u00a0Another might be the go-to person for Xero.<\/span><\/p>\n You might already have something similar in place.\u00a0However, the secret to this model succeeding, is for the client to be aware as well.\u00a0They need to know that they don\u2019t contact you (who then transfers them to the right person).\u00a0Clients need to know who in the firm will help them with what they need.<\/span><\/p>\n The benefit of this model is that the client is unlikely to follow a manager when they leave because they aren\u2019t confident that one manager can provide the service that they are receiving from the entire team in your firm.\u00a0<\/span> [\/et_pb_blurb][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Over the years, accountants have expressed their fear of managers leaving the firm and taking clients with them.\u00a0\u00a0A robust employee contract offers some protection but the enforcement of it is challenging, costly and stressful. 2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Client service will suffer because that person doesn’t have the time to look after the client properly.<\/span>
3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0If that person is sick or on leave, the clients needs will not be met properly while they are away.<\/span>
4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The client relationship is at risk if a manager leaves the firm because the client has mainly dealt with that manager.<\/span><\/p>\n
This model also creates additional capacity in your firm.<\/span><\/p>\n
